Assessment of heavy metals concentrations intropical agroecosystem (Wakwa,Adamawa,Cameroon): An Index Analysis Approach

A study has been conducted to evaluate the degree of Heavy Metals (HM)contamination on farm soils Wakwa’s, using enrichment factor (EF), geo-accumulation index (Igeo), pollution load (PLI), Ecological risk factors (Eir), indices(PER) and statistical analysis.In currentstudy, composite surface agricultural soil samples were collected in 4 sites analyzed for concentration HMs including As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Mn, Mo, Pb, Sr, V, Y, Zn Zr.Electric conductivity(EC)and pH also determined.The concentrations Zr, Mo andPb are significantly higher than average shale valuesin all sites. Sites WK3and WK4 recorded high ofNi V. obtained EFvary from 0.07 Sr 2.35for indicate zero tomoderateenrichment. Igeo vary -3.83 1.26 moderatecontamination.PLIvary 0.61 0.83with highest lowest polluted site being >WK3 >WK2 >WK1. All HM present low ecological concern potential indices. recordedacidic pHexcept WK1which neutralpH.WK4which is upstreamthe Lake Piu most pollutedand lowestpH(5.183) andthehighest EC(563.667μs/cm). Positive highly significant correlations observed several pairs; this could same source HMs. This concludes that a regular assessment needed estimate level toxic metal contamination ecosystem.The presentstudy valuable because it probably first work heavy levels Wakwa locality.
